Domaine Lou Gaillot is situated in the valley of the River Lot, some 80 miles south east of Bordeaux. Six generations of the family have been in the wine trade here and the present head of the enterprise, Gilles Pons, is a young man of 30 with impressive aspirations to continue the development of Lou Gaillot wines. The majority of the production places its emphasis on red wine, with a variety of styles, some lighter and others with more body and tannin. The premium wines are aged in oak barrels, the Réserve for 8 months and the Excellence for 12 months. A fruity Rosé wine is also produced, mainly from Merlot grapes, and this comes in three versions; dry, medium dry and sparkling. A recent innovation has been a very small production of medium dry wine, made from the Sauvignon Blanc grape variety. These are stylish wines offering excellent value for money. The estate also produces a selection of Eau de Vie from prunes for which the area is noted.
