The House of Millot was established in Meursault before 1700 and the present head of the Domaine, Bernard Millot received the estate from his father Raymond Millot. In turn, Bernard hopes to pass the vineyards on to one of his three sons. Chardonnay, Aligoté and Pinot Noir grapes are produced on the estate and, while white Meursault wines predominate and benefit from the outstandingly suitable limestone soil containing abundant white marls, excellent red wines are created from grapes from the estate’s parcels of land in neighbouring Volnay. Bernard Millot is anxious to preserve the character of the different soils of the various vineyards of the estate and makes every effort to produce wine in the most natural way possible, so that they have rich and harmonious flavours. Treatments are applied with a minimalist approach to preserve flora and animal life. The soil is frequently ploughed to avoid the excessive use of chemical weed-killers. Grape-picking is carried out by hand and all the wines are aged in oak barrels for at least twelve months: the best appellations for 12 months. The stars of the Domaine Bernard Millot production are the Meursault Premiers Crus, but all the wines offered are carefully made to produce a stylish and balanced result.
